MY BACKGROUND
A graduate of Wellesley College and Purdue University, Joy calls Nashville home, but hails from both Michigan and Pennsylvania. She brings to the table a wealth of leadership experience within the music and healthcare industries, as well as bilingual communication tools which she uses to build bridges amongst people of all backgrounds, both racially and socioeconomically.

In August of 2019, Joy, as a first time candidate, was elected to the Nashville Metro Council as the Councilwoman for District 32 in Antioch, TN. In addition to serving District 32, she is the Vice Chair of the Metro Council Women’s Caucus and Library, Parks and Arts Committee Planning Committee. She is also a member of the Planning and Historical Committee, Rules Committee, and the Convention, Entertainment Committee. She currently works for United Healthcare within Document Management. A licensed minister, Joy also serves as the Ambassador of Kingdom Partnerships for Spirit and Truth Believers Fellowship, where she connects the church with community organizations that are committed to serving those most in need. Additionally, she is chair of the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship’s Martin Luther King Day Committee, where she oversees the annual activities that commemorate Dr. King’s life and legacy of working for social justice.
Her current community involvement includes serving on the following boards and committees: the Advisory Board for The Salvation Army, Board Chair for The Hope Clinic and the Advisory Council of the Black Cultural Center at Vanderbilt University. Joy is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Sorority, Inc. , The Links, Inc. and a graduate of Emerge Tennessee. She believes that being an agent of change is a responsibility of the utmost importance.
